F.A.Q.

Q. IS YOUR SOY NON-GMO CERTIFIED?
A. YES!! We use tamari instead of traditional soy sauce. -  info

Q. I SEE ALCOHOL IN THE INGREDIENTS, DO YOU ADD ALCOHOL TO YOUR JERKY?
A. No, our alcohol ingredient comes from the 'San J' tamari used in the marinade for our jerky.  It is a food grade alcohol derived from sugarcane.  We do not add any alcohol to our jerky whatsoever.  You can read more about San J Tamari on their website - info

Q. IS YOUR JERKY GLUTEN FREE?
A. Our jerky contains zero gluten. We are working on getting the gluten free certification, but it's quite extensive (and expensive).  Most jerky contains gluten due to the use of cheap soy sauce they use.  We use the highest quality, certified gluten free tamari - info

Q. WHERE CAN I ORDER YOUR JERKY ONLINE?
A. There are lots of places that sell our jerky online.  We sell directly on Amazon Prime.  Please check out our store locator for all the locations to find our jerky. - store locator

Q. DOES YOUR COMPANY OFFER SAMPLES TO TRY YOUR PRODUCT?
A.  We don't currently have sample size bags to give away and shipping is quite expensive.  However, if you run a food focused blog we will gladly send a bag for you to do a review.  - contact

Q. I WANT TO SELL YOUR JERKY IN MY SHOP!! DO YOU USE UNFI OR ANY OTHER DISTRIBUTORS?
A. Right now we are trying our hardest to sell direct to retailers.  We have a few small independent distributors in the US and Canada and we're always adding more.  Please contact us or if you're a customer, request our jerky in your local market. - contact

Q. MY JERKY HAD MOLD IN IT!?

A. First of all, that SUCKS and we're super sorry that happend.  Second, please know that we are constantly working on providing the highest quality jerky.  A lot of  mold issues have to do with preventing air from entering the package.  We have added oxygen absorbers, pushed as much air out of the package as possible during production and increased the thickness barriers on our bags by 3 times.  Unfortunately after the jerky leaves our facility, it's difficult for us to prevent holes being poked in the bags, or warehouse mishandling.  Please contact us if you ever have an issue with a bad bag. - contact

REAL GOOD.  REAL FAKE.

ABOUT US.

Louisville Vegan Jerky Company was started in my home kitchen back in 2012. Our delicious, proprietary technique was actually a stroke of luck. Having spent some time in Oahu as a child, I was craving manapua— a steamed bun filled with Cantonese style barbeque that loosely translates to "delicious pork thing." Using my mom’s old recipe, I substituted baked soy protein for the “pork things,” and popped my vegan version in the oven.

I was busy preparing the dough and chatting with friends when the smell of chargrilled meat hit my nose. “Toe-y!” I screamed at my three-legged dog, Tofu “I forgot to set a timer!” The barbequed soy protein was overdone, super chewy, and absolutely delicious. Tofu agreed.

I abandoned my Hawaiian food project and headed straight to the local bar where I passed around bags of my newly discovered jerky to a full patio of hip Louisville beer drinkers. Within minutes, everyone was as excited as I was. They devoured the fortuitous first batch and asked for more. Where could they buy it? What was it called? And the best part…none of them even knew it was vegan.

Today, Louisville Vegan Jerky is sold in stores all over America, but we still make each bag the same old way— in small batches, by hand, and with freshly sourced Kentucky ingredients. It’s a difference you can taste, and a cruelty-free, American-made product that we’re proud to call our own. One bite and you’ll agree, fake has never tasted so real. So grab a beer and join us, there’s plenty to go around.
